When folk come t' see there be no former closeness left in their marriage, two paths rise before 'em. The first — t' endure for years, t' please one another, t' hide the pain behind polite smiles for guests, an' t' convince themselves that "there be no way out" or that one must "endure for the children's sake." But a one-sided game never saves a home — it only slowly burns out the soul o' the one who bears it all.

The second path — t' find the courage t' cease pretending an' truly try t' build a family: t' find shared goals, t' forge one's family values from naught, an' t' lay down living traditions wherein dwell mutual respect an' support.

In shapin' the architecture o' the World o' Family, I wanted tae gie fowk this verra chance at honest creation. For we arenae born wi' the skill tae keep a hearth — we learn tae mak a family ilka day, if baith are ready tae meet each ither haufway.
